NORTH MYRTLE BEACH WELCOMES A NEW FIRE ENGINE
On October 14, North Myrtle Beach welcomed a 202Pierce Arrow XT 1500GPM pump fire engine today. The new engine will be housed at the Windy Hill Fire Station.
The new fire engine replaces a 2000 KME that reached its frontline service capacity. The old fire engine becomes a reserve engine used temporarily when a front-line apparatus needs repairs.
In addition to fighting fires, the new engine will be used to respond to specialized calls such as Entrapment MVA's and technical rescue calls. It carries a set of the department's Holmatro extrication equipment and an onboard oil dry hopper. It also features LED scene lighting, including a light tower.
The fire engine features a lowered hose bed and carries 500 gallons of water and 50 gallons of foam, which improve safety for personnel.
