[ARCHIVED] Results -- October 18 City Council Meeting

NMB City Council - April 5 2021 - FINAL

RESULTS -- OCTOBER 18 NORTH MYRTLE BEACH CITY COUNCIL MEETING AGENDA

The North Myrtle Beach City Council met at City Hall on Monday, October 18, for an Executive Session (6:30 pm) and a Meeting (7:00 pm).

The 6:30 pm executive session included a discussion regarding potential property acquisitions. City Council took no action

During the 7:00 pm meeting, Mayor Marilyn Hatley presented a Proclamation in support of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) Advocates for Children Week, October 24-30. The North Myrtle Beach Woman’s Club is affiliated with the GFWC.

Since the early 1900s, GFWC members have played an intricate role in advocating for the health and well-being of children with prominent clubwomen such as Jane Addams and Julia Lathrop paving the way for the implementation of improved child labor and juvenile court laws.

GFWC members also educate, advocate and engage in projects concerning the well-being of children via health, social and safety programs by working to ensure protection from harmful situations and by encouraging healthy physical and emotional lifestyles.

The North Myrtle Beach Woman’s Club advocates for children by supporting Tools for Schools, the Children’s Recovery Center, the Autism Foundation, the USO United through Reading Program, and more.

Each year during the fourth week of October, GFWC and its affiliated clubs in Horry County stand with parents, grandparents, educators, community leaders, and others in emphasizing the important role that children play in our lives by raising awareness about issues that impact children directly.

City Council approved a special event permit for Deckerz Bar and Grill, 90 Hillside Drive for The Big Fish Shtick fundraiser for Timmy Ray Davis’ Cancer Fighters on Sunday, November 7, 12:00 pm-7:00 pm.

City Council passed the second (final) reading of an ordinance amending the Chestnut Greens Planned Development District (PDD) as it pertains to the residential development’s Amenity Center and entrance.

City Council passed the second reading of an ordinance closing and abandoning a portion of Water Lilly Road for the expansion of the North Myrtle Beach Park and Sports Complex. The City owns the property on both sides of the segment of Water Lilly Road that is now closed and abandoned. Other than the City’s property, there are no other parcels of private property that receive access from this segment of Water Lilly Road.

City Council passed the first reading of an ordinance to adopt revised flood damage control standards. The City of North Myrtle Beach adopted its last flood ordinance, Article II. - Flood Damage Control, in 1983. Intermittent revisions have been incorporated in the years that followed. To remain compliant with the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), the state model ordinance must be adopted or updated with the recommended/required regulations with regard to the last Community Assistance Visit which occurred on July 11, 2019. The revised ordinance will also be beneficial to the City’s standing with regard to the Community Rating System (CRS). City participation in the CRS results in reduced flood insurance premiums for North Myrtle Beach property owners.

City Council passed the first reading of an ordinance to adopt the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) revised Flood Insurance Study and Flood Insurance Rate Maps, which go into effect on December 16, 2021.

FEMA maintains Flood Insurance Studies and Flood Insurance Rate Maps showing the official boundaries of Special Flood Hazard Areas, the Base Flood Elevations and the risk premium zones applicable to flood insurance rates. FEMA periodically updates the studies and maps to include better ground elevation data and to reflect changes in ground elevations in the floodplain. The most recent revision to FEMA’s Flood Insurance Rate Maps as they pertain to North Myrtle Beach occurred on August 23, 1999. To remain compliant with the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), the City must adopt the new revisions to FEMA’s flood study and maps.
