VISITATION AND FUNERAL PLANS FOR DECEASED NMB POLICE SERGEANT GORDON W. BEST

Working with the Goldfinch Funeral Home in Conway, SC, the family of deceased North Myrtle Beach Police Sergeant Gordon W. Best has scheduled a visitation for Thursday, January 7, at Alabama Theater, 4750 Highway 17 South, North Myrtle Beach. Public visitation hours are 4:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. 

The funeral for Sergeant Best is Friday, January 8, 2:00 pm, at Alabama Theater. 

Please be aware that COVID-19 protocol limits seating availability in Alabama Theater. 

Please adhere to COVID-19 protocol, which includes wearing face-coverings and social distancing, at the visitation and the funeral.

Potentially, the funeral may be live-streamed so that those not seated in Alabama Theater may view it. We will provide more information when we have it. 

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 6

POLICE ESCORT FOR TAKING SGT. GORDON BEST TO THE

MEDICAL UNIVERSITY OF SC (MUSC) AND RETURN

  • Police escort meets at 5:00 am at the M.L. Brown Public Safety Building, Conway
  • Departs the M.L. Brown Building at 5:30 am
  • Leaving M.L. Brown Building, turn left on Main Street
  • Turn Right on 4th Avenue 
  • Continue straight onto 701 South into Georgetown
  • Merge onto US Highway 17 South into Charleston
  • Charleston County will pick up the escort inside their jurisdiction
  • Charleston County will lead escort into and out of MUSC
  • Arrive by 8:00 am at MUSC

Return to Goldfinch Funeral Home in Conway:

  • Leaving MUSC, return up US Highway 17
  • Merge onto 701 North in Georgetown
  • Continue onto 4th Avenue in Conway
  • Turn Left onto Beaty Street
  • Turn right into Goldfinch Funeral Home

PLEASE NOTE: If changes occur to route locations, the North Myrtle Beach Police Department and North Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue will notify the public via their social media platforms.

FRIDAY, JANUARY 8

FUNERAL AT ALABAMA THEATER 

PROCESSION FROM GOLDFINCH FUNERAL HOME TO ALABAMA THEATRE

The funeral procession begins at 12:00 pm from Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway, to the 2:00 pm funeral service at Alabama Theatre.

Route from Goldfinch Funeral Home to Alabama Theatre:

  • Turn right on Beaty Street
  • Right on 7th Avenue
  • Left on Main Street
  • Merge onto 701
  • Left onto SC 22 
  • Proceed East on SC 22 to SC 31 Northbound
  • SC 31 Northbound to Highway 9
  • Right onto Highway 9
  • Merge onto US Highway 17 South
  • Right Turn into 1st Avenue South
  • Left on Bay Street
  • Left on 2nd Avenue South
  • Right on US Highway 17
  • Right at 48th Avenue South into Barefoot parking lot

 PLEASE NOTE: The public is welcome to position along the route to honor Sergeant Best but should keep their vehicles out of the flow of traffic, and legally parked. Please do not park or stand in medians.
